Stabilization of a 3D axially symmetric pendulum

چکیده
Stabilizing controllers are developed for a 3D pendulum assuming that the pendulum has a single axis of symmetry and that the center of mass lies on the axis of symmetry. This assumption allows development of a reducedmodel that forms the basis for controller design and global closed-loop analysis; this reduced model is parameterized by the constant angular velocity component of the 3D pendulum about its axis of symmetry. Several different controllers are proposed. Controllers based on angular velocity feedback only, asymptotically stabilize the hanging equilibrium. Then controllers are introduced, based on angular velocity and reduced attitude feedback, that asymptotically stabilize either the hanging equilibrium or the inverted equilibrium. These problems can be viewed as stabilization of a Lagrange top. Finally, if the angular velocity about the axis of symmetry is assumed to be zero, controllers are introduced, based on angular velocity and reduced attitude feedback, that asymptotically stabilize either the hanging equilibrium or the inverted equilibrium. This problem can be viewed as stabilization of a spherical pendulum. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

MINIMUM TIME SWING UP AND STABILIZATION OF ROTARY INVERTED PENDULUM USING PULSE STEP CONTROL
This paper proposes an approach for the minimum time swing upof a rotary inverted pendulum. Our rotary inverted pendulum is supported bya pivot arm. The pivot arm rotates in a horizontal plane by means of a servomotor. The opposite end of the arm is instrumented with a joint whose axisis along the radial direction of the motor. A pendulum is suspended at thejoint. The task is to design a contro...
متن کاملAxially Symmetric Vibrations of a Liquid-Filled Poroelastic Thin Cylinder Saturated with Two Immiscible Liquids Surrounded by a Liquid
This paper studies axially symmetric vibrations of a liquid-filled poroelastic thin cylinder saturated with two immiscible liquids of infinite extent that is surrounded by an inviscid elastic liquid. By considering the stress free boundaries, the frequency equation is obtained. Particular case, namely, liquid-filled poroelastic cylinder saturated with single liquid is discussed. When the waven...
متن کاملDesign, Modeling and Stabilization of a Moment Exchange Based Inverted Pendulum
This paper summarizes the mechanical and control design concepts of an inverted or unstable pendulum where stabilization is achieved by a moment exchange generated by a controlled symmetric rotation of a rotational inertia attached to the pendulum. The proposed design of the pendulum has a fixed bottom rotation or point of support as opposed to the usual vertically or horizontally moving point ...
متن کاملRunning in Three Dimensions: Analysis of a Point-mass Sprung-leg Model
We analyze a simple model for running: a three-dimensional springloaded inverted pendulum carrying a point mass (3D-SLIP). Our formulation reduces to the sagittal plane SLIP and horizontal plane lateral leg spring (LLS) models in the appropriate limits. Using the intrinsic geometry and symmetries and appealing to the case of stiff springs, in which gravity may be neglected during stance, we der...
متن کاملAsymptotic stabilization of the hanging equilibrium manifold of the 3D pendulum
The 3D pendulum consists of a rigid body, supported at a fixed pivot, with three rotational degrees of freedom; it is acted on by gravity and it is fully actuated by control forces. The 3D pendulum has two disjoint equilibrium manifolds, namely a hanging equilibrium manifold and an inverted equilibrium manifold. This paper shows that a controller based on angular velocity feedback can be used t...
